Rev. James A. Pollard, Sr., Ph.D.

Holding the position of pastor longer than any other minister serving in that capacity, Reverend James A. Pollard, Sr., PhD, accepted the call to pastor Zion Baptist Church of Ardmore on May 25, 1971. He was licensed to preach the gospel on April 30, 1967 and ordained by the Keystone Baptist Association on September 29, 1970.

Educated, Pastor Pollard received a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Literature from Philadelphia College of the Bible; a Masters of Divinity from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and his Doctorate of Philosophy from Kensington University of California. While a student at Dropsie University, laying the foundation for his doctorate, Reverend Pollard worked with the late Dr. Solomon Zeitlin in the production of the fourth volume of “The Rise and Fall of the Judean State.”

Reverend Pollard currently serves as a member of the General Board of American Baptist Churches and of the Board of American Baptist Missions. He is also the chairman of the Montgomery County Advisory Council to the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission. Professor Pollard currently teaches at Eastern University, Geneva College Center for Urban Theological Studies and Lutheran Theological Seminary.

Dr. Pollard is married to Virginia Overton. The Lord has blessed this union with three sons and daughters‐in‐law; James Jr. (Simone), Joseph (Vernessa) and John (Tamara). The Pollards are also the proud grandparents of Jadon, Julian, and Jada Pollard.
